Muscle Energy Technique

What is the muscle energy technique?

Muscle Energy Technique or MET is a form of manual therapy that allows the patient to participate in the correction of certain misalignments and improves the function of the involved muscles.  The physical therapist places the involved body part in a particular position, taking up slack in the muscle and positions the joints as needed. The patient then isometrically pushes or pulls with his/her own muscles according to the specific instruction of the therapist.

This relaxes and lengthens the muscles involved and allows the patient to move better in a pain-free range.

When is the muscle energy technique used?

MET works well for back pain, both acute and chronic.  Using this technique for the pelvic imbalance is particularly effective. Neck pain and headaches respond very well to MET.

Our Mobile physical therapists are very well versed in using MET for various dysfunctions.   We want to help you reach your optimum level of physical function so you can get back to an active and pain-free life! Contact Grelot Physical Therapy today to schedule your consultation and get started on your path toward relief and recovery!
